Our Mission

Our mission is to strengthen youth and families through evidence-based programs that prevent substance abuse, promote healthy behaviors, and maximize student success.

Youth First exists to strengthen and transform the lives of young people and their families. Youth First Social Workers provide specialized mentoring and caring support to students in partnering schools, readily available to assess and address students, family and school needs. Catholic Diocese News

By Mary Haas, MSW – July 23, 2019 Change is hard for most of us. We typically don’t welcome change fearlessly with arms wide open. Transitions are sometimes our greatest fear and can provoke anxiety, even in adults. When faced with changing schools, our child can share these same fears. Even though change is inevitably […]

By Aisha Givens, LCSW – July 16, 2019 Blended families or stepfamilies are more common than ever. These families form when two partners make a life together with children from previous relationships. When families blend, it is rarely a smooth or easy process. These new families often form after a death, divorce, or separation of […]

By Jenna Kruse, MSW – July 9, 2019 Technology has become a large part of our society; we depend on it to learn, inform, and connect with others daily. However, it can have negative effects as well.          Most of us probably know a young child who watches YouTube regularly. How often do we stop to […]

What the Catholic Diocese says about Youth First

You make my heart feel good.

Elementary School Studentto her Youth First Social Worker

I would have committed suicide had it not been for having my Youth First Social Worker there in my school my seventh grade year. Knowing that I had someone to go talk to, talk it out with, made all the difference in the world to me.

Middle School Student

I feel it is vitally important to have availability and access to Youth First Social Workers in all the schools and as many programs as possible. It literally saved my daughter’s life and provided me with a sounding board and a helping hand during the rough patches when I didn’t know where to turn.

When I was in high school, I was dealing with problems at home and I had no interest in school. I was struggling with anxiety, depression and anger. I was making bad decisions until I was referred to my school’s Youth First Social Worker. I don’t think I would have graduated without her support.

Students in elementary, middle and high schools are subject to many pressures and insecurities, sometimes without the support they need.  Youth First Social Workers are a critical resource that help many of these children make the right choices now that may affect the rest of their life path.

Jim MuehlbauerVice Chairman of Koch Enterprises

We place tremendous value on our partnership with Youth First. Our Youth First Social Worker provides important services to ensure students lead healthy lives. The organization is proactive by providing programs that strengthen families, encourage positive choices, and prevent substance abuse. Adolescence is a difficult time for many, and our Youth First Social Worker works with students to overcome obstacles and challenges.
