By Mary Haas, MSW – July 23, 2019 Change is hard for most of us. We typically don’t welcome change fearlessly with arms wide open. Transitions are sometimes our greatest fear and can provoke anxiety, even in adults. When faced with changing schools, our child can share these same fears. Even though change is inevitably […]

By Aisha Givens, LCSW – July 16, 2019 Blended families or stepfamilies are more common than ever. These families form when two partners make a life together with children from previous relationships. When families blend, it is rarely a smooth or easy process. These new families often form after a death, divorce, or separation of […]

What Martin County says about Youth First

To be able to have a dedicated Youth First Social Worker in our schools to reach our young people at a critical time in their lives is a sound investment.

Dan GregoryLoogootee community volunteer

We want our children to not only be successful academically, but we want our children to be successful emotionally and socially. To succeed in one area and not the other two is to limit the success our students will be able to achieve once they leave our school.

Dr. Joan KellerFormer Superintendent, Loogootee Community Schools

The assistance and guidance that our children have available to them through Youth First is invaluable for their growth, well-being, and success as students and adults.

Curt JohnsonExecutive Director, Martin County Community Foundation

Youth First is a great fit in our community. In addition to placing a Licensed Social Worker in our schools, they have provided Elizabeth [Christmas, Youth First Social Worker] with a framework and menu of programs to help her best meet the needs of our students and the greater community. The work she is doing is crucial to the continued and future success of our young people and their families.
