Kathy Baker, LCSW, LCAC, Youth First Social Worker at Castle High School in Warrick County
Kathy Baker is a Youth First Social Worker who has always loved working with students and their families. She says that some of the most meaningful moments she’s experienced in her position occur long after her students have graduated and become adults.
“I once had a former student and their spouse approach me at a grocery store. The student introduced themselves and their spouse and thanked me for reaching out to them while they were in high school. They indicated they were struggling with depression and my contact motivated them to make better choices and plan for the future. They remembered that I spoke with them often about Self-Care (monitoring their sleep habits, eating habits, taking time to exercise, taking their prescribed medication as directed, and finding a hobby).”
Kathy says she was initially drawn to Youth First because she felt the position would be a perfect fit. “It was also an exciting thought to not have to be on-call any more, and having a similar work schedule as my children’s school schedule was appealing. Having time off in the summer to rejuvenate and plan for the school year was enticing too.”
Kathy says she’s stayed with Youth First because of the relationships she’s made with students, parents, teachers, and staff at Castle High School. “Youth First has also allowed me to experience personal and professional growth with opportunities for professional development, trainings, and supervision by dedicated Youth First Staff.”
